This week on the show we interview artist and musician CHANDRA! In the 80s a twelve-year-old Chandra fronted her very own mutant-disco, post-punk group and recorded the recently reissued cult-classic TRANSPORTATION! We talk to Chandra about her current work, helping kids to write music, and we run down a roster of the stranger characters she's encountered in her career, including Captain Kangaroo, Andy Warhol, and the not-so-strange Jennifer Connelly!
We play these tunes:
Chandra - Transportation - Subways
Chandra - Transportation - Oposite
Chandra - Transportation - Stranger
Chandra - Transportation - Something
Chandra - Transportation - Concentration
Chandra - Transportation - Get it Out of Your System
BB Cream - BB Cream - Mother Nature
Human Ceremony - Sunflower Bean - Wall Watcher
Whitney - Light Upon the Lake - Golden Days
Alex G - Beach Music - Kicker
Bart - Holomew - On/Off
Doomsquad - Total Time - Who Owns Noon in Sandusky?
Solids - Else - Wait it Out
Peach Kelli Pop - Peach Kelli Pop III - Shampoo
Originally aired April 20, 2016
Correction: In the interview, Chandra speculates it was Richard Linklater who nearly made a Chandra documentary for SNL--it was in fact director Jonathan Demme.
